MTB Biking/Camp Spot in So Cal?
looking for a place to ride single-track and camp for a night or two that's within a couple hours of SD (north county).
would prefer to avoid the desert, but also want a camp fire at night. will be in a small camper, so crude site is all that's necessary (toilets optional).
anyone know of any place cool in big bear or mt. laguna? or maybe julian?

There is a lot of ST up in Mt Laguna (BLT, Noble Cyn), with plenty of camping up there. Also, there is some ST combined with interesting fireroads up in Cuyamaca Rancho State Park, with camping at Green Valley and Paso Picacho. As far as LA area and mountains are concerned, I've been to a few places up there (SART, etc.), but have never camped up there...perhaps others may chime in with that 411.

It may be a little farther than a couple of hours for you, but I highly recommend Point Mugu/Sycamore Canyon State Park in Ventura County. Nice campgrounds near the ocean and lots of places to ride.

There are a few campsites in Moro Canyon in Laguna Beach. No campfires allowed, though. My website has a few maps for some singletrack...
